Built for People Who Aren’t Designed for Average
When I started my construction company, it wasn’t because I dreamed of being a builder. I was working for a big builder in town and saw a problem, being a natural problem solver, I thought: This can be better.
Back then, homebuyers had two choices:
A cookie-cutter spec home that looked like every other house on the street.
A fully custom build with a custom price tag, custom delays, and custom stress.
Neither option worked for people who wanted something personal, functional, and designed for how they actually lived.
And truthfully?
Neither option worked for someone like me—someone who doesn’t love being told what they can and can’t do.
So I created a third option.
I built master plans that gave buyers a beautiful starting point, then gave them the freedom to make it their own.
I championed one-story homes, open floor plans, large patios, island kitchens, and walk-in showers long before they were standard.
We even designed everything in-house—plans, electrical layouts, cabinet designs, selections—because I believed people deserved choices that fit them, not the builder.
Fast Forward: A New Industry, Same Instinct
Years later, when I shifted from homebuilding into developing income-producing properties for investors, I saw the same problem.
Investors were boxed into outdated choices:
Put everything into Wall Street and brace for volatility
Buy a rental and accidentally become a full-time landlord
Invest in a single asset and hope that asset class doesn’t tank
Just like the old homebuilding model, these options didn’t match what real people actually needed—especially high-performing founders and transformational professionals who aren’t built for average.
So again, I built a third option.
Instead of offering “one asset, one deal,” we created a diversified fund with commercial, multifamily, industrial, and strategic business acquisitions.
Not because it was trendy—because it made sense.
It allowed us to design an investment experience that matches the standards, expectations, and goals of the people we serve.
The Lesson
Whether it was in homebuilding or investment development, the principle is the same:
If the standard options don’t serve people, create options that do.
People don’t want limits—they want clarity, flexibility, and a strategy that reflects who they are and what they’re building.
That’s what we’ve always done at StoneCrest Equity Partners.
And it’s what we’ll continue to do for investors who expect more from their portfolios than Wall Street sameness.
